Are you an agricultural producer looking to increase your yields and profitability, while improving the health of your soils? Have you considered intercropping corn?
When intercropping, which species should be prioritized? Firstly, there is the annual ray grass, which is the type most used with corn. Thanks to its fasciculated root system, ray grass greatly helps to structure the soil and reduce leaching losses. It also consumes nitrogen and competes well against nitrogen-loving weeds.
Secondly, legumes are also a good option since they increase the rate of water infiltration, provide nitrogen, and resist droughts.
Finally, fodder radish is also a crop not to be overlooked. It has an impressive and powerful root system that can help loosen the soil. To protect the corn and to avoid affecting its development, the ideal stage for sowing these intercrops is between V2 and V4.
Remember that mixes offer a lot of benefits. They increase biodiversity, promote greater biomass, and stimulate the joint development of different root systems.

See a short video on the page: Drones Overbeek was seeding cover crops on June 5, 2024, at:
- FERME GILLENE INC., SAINT-ZEPHIRIN-DE-COURVAL, QC
- LES POMMES DE TERRE CARDINAL INC., SAINTE-BRIGITTE-DES-SAULTS, QC
The drone flies at an altitude of 120 feet and creates 25-foot-wide strips. It can carry a payload of up to 50 kg, although this reduces the flight time. An operator can cover between 20 and 25 acres per hour.
SYN-CO INTER 1

- 44% MELQUATRO annual (italian type) ryegrass
- 56% Crimson clover
Recommended seeding rate, 20kg/ha
This mixture contains ryegrass which helps structure the soil, promotes better bearing capacity for machinery and tolerates flooding. As for clover, it provides a source of nitrogen for the next crop, it tolerates drought, controls weeds, promotes soil biodiversity and is normally destroyed by winter An economical mix
SYN-CO INTER 2

- 24% MELQUATRO annual (italian type) ryegrass
- 58% Crimson clover
- 18% Forage radish
Recommended seeding rate, 20kg/ha
This mixture contains ryegrass which helps structure the soil, promotes better bearing capacity for machinery and tolerates flooding. Clover provides a source of nitrogen for the next crop, is drought tolerant, controls weeds, promotes soil biodiversity, and is normally destroyed by winter. As for forage radish, it promotes water infiltration (aerates the soil), stores nitrogen and helps control weeds A complete mix
