A tribute to their work (Farmers) : Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2016

A tribute to their work (Farmers)

We may wonder, at breakfast time,
when you look at the eggs on your plate,
if you have ever thought about them,
the time spent cleaning out the henhouse,
feeding and monitoring the brood,
picking, packaging and transporting
each pallet of egg boxes to the cold room.

We may wonder, at morning snack time,
when offering milk or cheese to your children,
if you have ever thought about them,
how early they wake up each morning to feed
and milk the cows,
at random times where they must be available
when a cow is calving.

We may wonder, at noon time,
when you grab a fresh vegetable,
if you have ever thought about them,
from the sowing period in the greenhouses early in the spring
to the transplant of crops in the fields,
to the hours spent in the heat and cold during the harvest,
to their sore muscles carrying each box or bag
to your local grocery store.

We may wonder, at afternoon snack time,
when you bite into a fresh fruit,
if you have ever thought about them,
the number of years of work it took
and the patience necessary sometimes
for the first fruit to appear,
the stress they may experience
when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate
and destroys an existing crop.

We may wonder, at dinner time,
when preparing a piece of meat or poultry,
according to the recipe from a well-renowned Chef,
if you have ever thought about them,
the time they spent ensuring that each animal in the herd
receives the right amount of feed and water,
in addition to all the special care they had to provide
for their health and well-being.

We may wonder,
whenever you bring food to your mouth,
if you have ever thought about them,
the people who cultivate the land to provide animals,
just like to you and to your children,
the nutritive bases from grain products (oats, wheat, barley),
or soybeans, corn, hay and other natural essentials
on a daily basis.

We may wonder, during the Holiday Season,
with meals on your plate worthy of a King,
if you have ever thought about them.
Well, when thinking about the various meats or poultry
accompanied by vegetables,
mashed, fried, or baked potatoes,
pies, cheeses, wine, beer,
to the eggs, milk, flour and fruits needed
to concoct the most tasty desserts,
shouldn’t we take a moment or two to think about them?

If it took them hours, months,
sometimes even years,
to deliver everything you eat every day,
and what you will enjoy in the end of the season,
perhaps take a few seconds to reflect,
and a few minutes to say thank you to the farmers
when you meet them in 2016.

On this thought,
our goal is to recognize at the highest level
the work done by all farmers,
Synagri wishes you all
a very Happy Holiday season
and a prosperous 2016!
